What We DoWhat We Do
As the name implies, The Software Taxation Institute specializes in analyzing
the taxation issues of the internet and software transactions. Our primary concern
is state tax issues. Of secondary concern are federal and international issues.
We have been writing about software taxation issues for nearly 20 years.
Our newsletter, the Software Taxation Letter, started publication in 1990.
The newsletter slowly grew into our book, Sales and Use Taxation of Computer
Software & Internet Transaction. Originally, the book dealt only with
software
transactions. As the internet grew, we added more internet material. In 2007,
the book was converted into a web book, State Taxation of Computer Software.
In 2009 we started covering digital goods.
With the development of internet sales, our interest in nexus grew. We even
started a short-lived nexus newsletter in 1994, the Nexus Connection. That
project
grew into our electronic book, The Nexus Book.
All of our materials are constantly updated. If you are current subscriber
and have a general question about software taxation or nexus, feel free to contact
us. We will be glad to help you in any way we can.
